Can
you draw a picture for me?
I'm afraid I don't take non-commercial
commissions at the moment (the exception being friends I know in real life). Though
if you catch me at events or conventions,
I'll be happy to do a quick free drawing!
I found one of your
images elsewhere...
If you find some of my work displayed
suspiciously (ie someone pretending they created it) then email me the
link and I'll go after the offender. Aside from this website, I only show work
in my Deviantart gallery and on the Sweatdrop forums.
Can
I use one of your pictures for a project?
The
likely answer is yes, as long as you credit the image
with 'Joanna Zhou' and don't make money out of it. If it's an online use, please
include a link back to Chocolatepixels.
When will we be able
to view the manga section?
At the date of writing, I don't have
plans to display each manga in full because there are simply too many pages. Many
of them are available to view through my Animexx
or Tokyopop
accounts.
Where did the tutorial section go?
The How
To Draw Chibi tutorial has been placed under projects. It's now available
in English and German. Here is the link to my Manga
Art Tips blog. All other content from the old tutorial section have been removed.
I wrote to you but you didn't reply!
I always try
my best to reply to every person who contacts me...unfortunately I sometimes lose
track of emails so please poke me again! I'm always
fairly busy so please be understanding if I stop answering 'small talk' messages.
What tools do you use?
I always like to sketch
and ink by hand. After scanning, I colour or tone my picture digitally using Photoshop
CS2, Opencanvas4 Plus, Painter IX or Mangastudio EX. I use a Wacom
Intuos3 A5 tablet on a MacBook Pro or Compaq Presario laptop.
How
did you get started in this industry?
I entered lots of competitions, sent
images to magazines and was personally active in the manga scene. Studying at
St Martins and Chelsea
also enabled me to tailor manga style work towards a more mainstream market.
How was this site made?
The swirly ornaments were created in Illustrator.
Other graphics were made in Photoshop. The title font is my
own handwriting and Bodoni. The menu font is
Camomile, made by my talented typographer friend Cristina.
I'm hosted by Rydia.net, a
fantastic service for artists.
